NYC Orchestra Project

About Us
Our Story
Since its inception - driven by student initiative, artistic ambition, and a commitment to social impact, our organization has rapidly emerged as a dynamic force in New York City’s classical music community.
Our journey began in December 2023 with Symphony and Song, the first large-scale, student-led orchestral performance of its kind at the Manhattan School of Music. This groundbreaking concert not only served as the spark for a new movement in MSM’s performance landscape but also raised nearly $4,000 for The Trevor Project, demonstrating the powerful intersection of music and advocacy.
Building on that momentum, we launched our most ambitious undertaking to date: The MSM Mahler Project. With over 100 student musicians on stage, it became the largest student-run performance in the school’s history. The concert drew a full house—607 seats filled—the first practically sold-out orchestra concert at MSM in six years. This landmark event underscored the extraordinary potential of student-driven work and revealed the deep enthusiasm of our wider community for bold, collaborative performances.
Now, in our first full season, we are presenting a series of five concerts, uniting musicians from over ten conservatories and universities across the New York City area. This growing network reflects our mission: to foster inter-school collaboration, elevate the artistic voices of young musicians, and create powerful musical experiences that resonate far beyond the concert hall.
